What is Microsoft Duet ?
Still sometimes referred to as its code name, Mendocino, Duet 1.x was a suite of products jointly developed by Microsoft and SAP. The product suite consisted of server components, client
components, tools, and applications that presented SAP processes and
data to the Microsoft Office suite.
The earliest versions of Duet introduced several common business processes into the familiar Microsoft Outlook interface. These business processes included Time Management, Leave Management, Team Management, and Budget Monitoring. Later, Duet was extended to include Purchasing Management,Recruiting, Travel Management, Sales Management, and Demand Planning.
The original Duet exposed or delivered an organization’s SAP data into Microsoft Outlook. For the “occasional” SAP end user, there was no longer a need to log on to SAP at all. Imagine coming into the office in the morning and upon opening Microsoft Outlook finding your morning sales report.
your direct reports requesting vacation, along with another email from the HR department asking you to approve a one-time bonus for another employee. With Duet, you could review the report, reject the vacation request, and approve the bonus without ever leaving Outlook. Duet made people and processes more effective and efficient.
